Abstract<\/strong>. The article concerns with the opening of the first kindergarten in lovdiv in 1884 by the association \u201eMother\u2019s Care\u201c. The article also mentions the name of the first kindergarten teacher Ekaterina P. Dessimirova. Here for the first time the thorough history of the start of the association and its first creators can be read. A contrastive analysis is presented depicting the creation of the Froebel kindergartens and the place of the Bulgarian kindergartens in this process.<\/p>\n

ABOURS LOST OR LABOURS WON? TEACHING SHAKESPEARE THROUGH PERFORMANCE AT SOFIA UNIVERSITY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. Over the last thirty years teaching through performance has established itself as a useful approach to Shakespeare\u2019s dramatic works all over the world. So far, this approach has not been used systematically at Sofia University. To fill this gap an experimental workshop was launched in 2011 to test up-to-date performance-based classroom practices and establish interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as to explore the potential of these activities for enhancing student learning. The more immediate objective of the workshop was to stage an amateur production of Love\u2019s Labour\u2019s Lost involving students as much as possible in theatre-related decision-making processes, such as adapting the play text, designing costumes, props, special effects, directing individual scenes as well as the whole production, etc. The paper reports on the achievements of the workshop and invites discussion in the more general context of the modern crisis in the humanities as we know them (at least at Sofia University) and the necessary paradigm shift from passive to active learning with a stronger emphasis on using creative pedagogies for fostering healthy self confidence, developing transferable skills and gaining social intelligence alongside teaching content.<\/p>\n

INTERACTION OF EDUCATIONAL, RELIGIOUS AND INTERCULTURAL VALUES IN THE HISTORY OF ROMANIAN PEOPLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. Increasing current interest in understanding the place of values in society nowadays comes from contemporary access to variety of values as dominant priority of our era. Therefore we face a new cultural model resulting in meeting and more pronounced testing of cohabitation of cultures located in a deep antagonism just until recently. One of key issues in that context is how religion as a major problem throughout mankind\u2019s history, contributed to that shift. This study aims to present main contributions of Romanian Orthodox Church clergy from XVII-XIX centuries, who agreed to assume modernity not only in personal or social exploitation of more diverse models, validated after meeting with people or different cultural models, but especially in the educational plan. School as focal point of values of a historic period also provided environement for integration of those values and to their presentation to the world together with new formative values based on various identity contours. Therefore we can identify many Romanian metropolitans from the past, some of them being also considered scholars and cannnonised saints, as true precursors of recent intercultural achievements, through their insistence on development of schools and on placing education them on the opening lines to national and European values.<\/p>\n

This paper presents an original approach towards the current conceptual and empirical implementations of the classroom management which is relatively new area of investigation and good practices in this country. A short chronology of the first studies and developments in both Bulgarian and worldwide context is introduced. On the basis of own research data and results gathered during a period of eight years the author summarizes main achievements, questions and perspectives in this thematic area. USE OF LEARNER\u2019S E-PORTFOLIO IN INSTRUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. The effectiveness of e-portfolios is to a greater extent a result of the active process of their development than with the final product itself. The e-portfolio allows recording the outcomes of authentic instruction and reveals opportunities for collecting different types of proofs such as a text, audio, video records, graphics, photos and other types of presentations. The current study aims to determine the significance of e-portfolios in the learning process based on the students\u2019 opinions. The results of content analysis of 38 students\u2019 essays about use of student\u2019s e-portfolio for learning purposes are presented in this paper. The paper clarifies e-portfolio\u2019s basic functions in instruction. The results indicated that the greatest advantages of student\u2019s e-portfolio are related to supporting and following the progress of learning, assuring attractive presentation in different contexts, providing the overall picture of knowledge acquisition, implementing formative assessment and developing different kind of important skills.

TEACHER LEADERSHIP AS A BOTTOM-UP APPROACH TO THE EDUCATIONAL REFORM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. International Teacher Leadership (ITL) project is an established research and development initiative with a team consisting of over 50 experts from 15 countries supporting around 1000 teachers in around 150 schools. This article explains the origins and aims of the project and explores the cultural contexts in which this distinctive approach to supporting teacher leadership was implanted. It goes on to discuss teacher leadership as a concept and the distinctive approach used in this project. Furthermore, the authors discuss the idea and circumstances of implementation of the adapted teacher leadership model in Bulgaria. The methodology of the project is presented in outline and the project activities are made visible through presented evidence of impact.<\/p>\n

TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. Teachers professional development through \u201cActive Teachers\u201c Clubs in Bulgaria is part of the International Teacher Leadership Network founded by prof. David Frost, University of Cambridge, UK and adopted in Bulgaria by the Open Society Institute team. The pilot projects was launched in 2010 in Lyaskovets and Veliko Tarnovo. This article explores the quality of current professional qualification policy and the relevance of the teachers\u2019 in-service training courses to the genuine needs of teachers, schools and students. The first results and analyses showed that the teachers need to share and discuss the challenges they face in the everyday school life. They need guidelines and tools to structure the discussions for school improvements and individual and team\u2019s professional development. The improvements of teachers\u2019 work and results require higher level of trust, measures to enhance the internal communications within the pedagogical teams and enhanced involvement in professional research activities and development of teachers\u2019 portfolio.<\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. This article draws the attention to some important features of the Finnish educational system that make it successful and socially oriented; to the mechanisms for its effective functioning and management from infancy to graduation of 12th grade and further to higher education as well. The article focuses on teamwork connected to the practice of individual stimulation and development of each child and student in kindergartens and schools in Finland, based on an assessment of the potential and interests; the effectiveness of learning and social justice in education, ensuring equal quality of services.
