Abstract. Предмет на изследване в настоящата статия са концепциите за категорията падеж The subject of present paper are the concepts of the category of case in some of the most common Russian grammars from the second half of the 18th century. As is well known, case is one of the most complex linguistic abstractions, and it is important to trace how the views of scholars from different eras have evolved. In the center of observation are the grammars of M. V. Lomonosov and A. A. Barsov, which are distinguished by numerous contributions to the description of the category. Some lesser-known grammatical works are also examined. It is concluded that these first grammars of the Russian language have an important meaning, since they describe some terms and views that are still relevant today.
