Absract. The article presents main trends in the development of social pedagogy
as a science, academic discipline, specialty and practice in the first decades of the
21st century. Distinctive in the process of self-determination of social pedagogy is
the clarification of its relationship with social work in all its manifestations. The
theoretical study emphasizes the conceptualizations of social pedagogy in the UK,Germany and Bulgaria, as well as the results of an international comparative study.
Among the trends in Bulgaria, the idea of developing social pedagogy as a meta science stands out. In this regard, the author’s idea of elaborating this perspective
based on the scientific principles of Immanuel Kant’s critical philosophy is shared.
